Bottomless pit supervisor
I was at the end of my wit. I had taken all sorts of odd jobs, and been fired from all of them. I had tree fiddy left in my bank account and needed food. My friend was starting to look at me badly when I came back home and slept on his couch. I had been applying to anything, everything, until this job came in.
It paid badly but better than nothing. I supervised a hole. Daily customers would come in and dump trash there. I was to make sure that they followed safety precautions. My boss had described the pit as bottomless, but how can there be such a thing? The pit *did* look bottomless, and the garbage pile never seemed to become visible, but it could not actually be so.
One day, I fell.
I had been watching the truck dump trash, until an empty barrel fell and rolled and knocked me into the railing protecting the hole. I yelled and tried to hold to it, but my torso went over the railing and gravity took hold of me.
I braced myself for impact. Hopefully the landing would be soft, with all that garbage.\
