the tim burton alice in wonderland is pretty good? this is a hot take, but i like it. i like helena bonham carter as the red queen. i like mia whatserface as alice. i played the white rabbit as a child, which was a little bit typecasting, mostly because i am rabbitlike and late to everything.
the thing about wonderland is it is supposed to expose the absurdity of our own hypocrisy --- the hierarchies, the nonsensical social norms we blindly follow, the insanity of tight-laced turn-of-the-century (??????) english society. alice is pressing against these norms rather heroically. the disney movie makes her into a passive heroine, which is a motherfucking mistake if i ever saw one. alice should be a rebel, man. give alice her spirit back.
idk maybe it's just fun to see people be silly and over the top and completely absurd. i just sent a post to zoe curzi about how all men think they're hamlet and all women think they're alice. i love this so much, and it feels true. it feels like the world is large and lurching and belching in strange languages. it feels like we are so small and so big at once.
viva la alice
snorpal snorp! ! !
