The Best Little Wordhouse in Texas
i cannot believe that i had to learn an entire texas accent for this residency
it was exhausting having to drawl the entire time. i didn't think that it was going to work out when people began telling me they couldn't quite understand what i was saying. but the accent is part of it. as are the costumes, which mostly consist of lingerie (???) and elaborate bouffant hairdos that can hide all manner of pens. the tights are itchy as fuck and the heels break my ankles. but the clients are nice, mostly. shifty eyes under those ten-gallon hats. you never know what a cowboy might have encountered before he comes in to meet ones of us.
there are so many other fabulous texan writers here, working 9-5 every single day. they don't seem to be bothered by the exorbitant amount of boob sweat --- or wrist sweat, for that matter, from the intense typing. dallas is hot in april. too hot for civilians.
anyway, i think that overall this has been an incredible experience. the madam here wears a flat cap and is very stringent. she has a different accent. the trails of sequins that we all leave behind are difficult for her to clean up, but she's really trying her best, which i think is admirable.
